Your Coda account is your individual account that you use to access Coda. If you no longer need access to Coda going forward, you may decide to permanently delete your account. If so, the steps in this article will explain how to do this. You’ll also learn what actions need to be taken before an account can be deleted.
This article is intended for customers on our Team, Pro, and Free plans. If you’re on an Enterprise plan, you will need to ask your org admin to deactivate your account.

Understand the terminology
Before deleting your Coda account, it may be helpful to review some relevant terminology:
Coda account: This is your individual account that you use to sign in and access Coda. Each Coda account can belong to multiple workspaces. You must have a Coda account in order to access a workspace, edit docs, etc.
Delete account: Deleting your Coda account is permanent. This action will delete all data associated with your account, included any docs that you own. You will no longer be able to sign into Coda via this account.
Workspace: A workspace is the home for Coda docs and customers. Each workspace is on a specific plan (Free, Pro, Team, or Enterprise), and will have slightly different features accordingly. Billing and payment happens at the workspace level.
Delete workspace: Deleting a workspace will fully and permanently delete the workspace for all members. A workspace must be empty of all docs before it can be deleted. If the workspace is on a paid plan, it must also be downgraded before it can be deleted. Deleting your workspace does not result in your account being deleted. Learn more about deleting workspaces here.
Downgrade workspace: Downgrading is the act of going from a higher-cost plan to a lower-cost (or no-cost) plan. Downgrading does not delete a workspace nor does it delete your account, so the workspace and its docs will still be accessible by the members. Check out this article to learn about downgrading workspaces.
Before deleting your account
Before you can delete your Coda account, make sure that none of the following scenarios apply to you. If a scenario does apply to you, then refer to the corresponding solution.
Scenario | Error message | Solution |
You are the only workspace admin in a paid workspace | “Retry after adding a second administrator or delete the following workspaces where you are the only administrator” | If you encounter this issue, you have two options:
Once you’ve completed one of the above actions, you should be able to delete your account using the steps in the section below. |
Your account is governed by an Enterprise org | "We are unable to purge your account as it is governed by an organization. Please contact your org admin for more information” | Reach out to one of your Coda org admins for assistance. If you’re unsure who your org admins are, we suggest asking your company’s IT team. And when in doubt, feel free to reach out to Coda Support (via the ? in the lower right corner of your doc). |
Delete your account
Once you’ve confirmed that you don’t fall into either of the scenarios described in the section above, you can follow these steps to delete your Coda account:
While logged in, go to coda.io/account
Scroll to the bottom of the page, and click Advanced Settings to expand
Select Delete my account
You will see a message warning you that this action is permanent. If you own any docs, these will also be deleted. Click on the checkbox to confirm you understand, then click Confirm deletion.
We'll send you an email with a confirmation code. Leave this page open while you retrieve the code. Then enter this code in the account settings where prompted. Once confirmed, your account and all associated data will be deleted.
