Import Quip data into a Coda doc
📣 The following instructions explain how to import from Quip into an existing Coda doc. If you instead would like to create a new doc from scratch by importing from Quip, you can do so by starting at your workspace home (coda.io/docs). Then click the Templates button in the upper right, choose Import from the menu, find Quip in the import options, and click Start import. From here, jump down to step #3 below.
To import from Quip into an existing Coda doc, just follow these steps:
-
Type /quip into any new line on the canvas of your doc, then choose Quip from the dropdown menu (in the Import section)
Alternatively, you can click Insert in the upper-right corner of your doc, search for Quip, then select Quip from the import options.
If you already have any Quip accounts connected, you can select the account you'd like to use for this import. Then skip to step #5 below. If you don't yet have any connected accounts - or if you want to connect a different account - continue to step #3 below.
To connect a new Quip account, you'll first need to grab the API access token from your Quip account. If you're not sure where to find this token, click on the Get an access token link, and you'll be directed to the correct page in Quip. If you haven’t already, you’ll need to log in to Quip at this time.
Once you have the API token from your Quip account, paste it into the available field and click Connect.
Next you will choose which content from Quip to import. You can either paste in a link from Quip, or click on the Browse Quip folders tab and then choose from the list. Once ready, click Import.
💡Tip: Make sure the time zone of your Coda doc matches the time zone of your Quip doc before you press the import button. Otherwise, the imported dates and times may not match. Learn how to change your Coda doc’s time zone here.
After a few seconds, you’ll see a message that the import is ready. Select show me to view the imported content in your Coda doc.
After importing
Once your import is complete, there may be a few finishing touches that are needed to ensure a smooth migration to Coda. You should see a new page in your doc, titled Read me: Import next steps. This page is automatically added to help you with any next steps or fixes to your import.
To learn more, select the Import fixes subpage, since this is where we note some limitations to what Coda can import from Quip. In the table, you will find a complete list of all the issues in your recent import, along with a suggested solution and a link to the location of the issue. We've even included columns to help you assign issues to someone and track the resolution of these issues.
Once all issues have been successfully resolved, or you're satisfied with what you've resolved so far, you can simply delete the Read me: Import next steps page and its subpages. Alternatively, you can hide the pages to save for future reference.
