Localize currency in specific tables
For each currency column, you can choose your preferred symbol and symbol location. You can set both doc-wide and account-wide preferences for these (see the later sections in this article), which will apply to all currency columns going forward.
But if you wish to make adjustments to only certain columns and tables, or if you need to adjust existing tables, follow these steps:
- Right-click on the column header of your currency column
- Choose Edit column
- Click into the Symbol field, and choose from the available options
- If needed, you can also click into the Symbol location field and choose from Before amount or After amount.

Now, all values in that column should automatically show your selected currency symbol and location. You can adjust the settings for additional specific currency columns as needed. But if you instead want to change the currency preferences for the entire doc, check out the instructions in the next section.
Set currency preferences for an existing doc
If you want to set doc-wide preferences for currency, you can do so via the Region section of your doc settings. Just follow these steps to do so:
ℹ️ Note that you need to be the doc owner in order to change the currency preferences for the doc.
- In the upper-right corner of your doc, click on the three-dot menu
- Select Doc settings from the list
- Click into the Region section
- Choose the Numbers tab
- Here you will see the settings for Currency symbol and Currency symbol position. Adjust as needed.

These preferences will now apply to all newly created currency columns and controls, but will not apply retroactively to existing columns or controls. To adjust existing columns, follow the steps in the previous section.
Set currency preferences for all future docs
You also have the option to set an account-level preference for currency, which will apply to all Coda docs you create going forward. To locate and modify these account settings, follow the steps below:
- Navigate to coda.io/account (or click on your avatar in the lower-left corner of any doc and select Account settings)
- Scroll to the New document details section of these settings
- Locate the Currency symbol and Currency symbol position settings and modify as needed.

Once these preferences are set, all future docs that you create will automatically follow these preferences. However, changes to these account settings will not retroactively apply to existing docs. You will need to follow the steps in the previous section to adjust the currency preferences for any existing docs.
FAQs
Can I set currency preferences for the entire doc?
Yes! If you are the doc owner, you can set doc-wide currency preferences. Simply click on the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner of your doc, select Doc settings from the list, and click into the Region section. Here, you'll see a Numbers tab, which contains a Currency symbol and Currency symbol position setting. Modify these settings as needed, and the change will be applied to all newly created currency columns and controls going forward.
Note that any changes to these doc currency settings will not apply to pre-existing currency columns or controls. The currency settings for these will need to be manually modified via the steps in the first section of this article.
Can I set currency preferences for all of my docs?
Yes - you can use your account settings to set currency preferences that will apply to all future docs you create. Check out the steps in the section above to learn more.
Can I translate text in a Coda doc?
Currently, browser tools like Google's Chrome's translate work on most content when a doc is shared read-only, locked, or published. If you expect viewers of a doc to need to translate its content, we recommend applying locking, sharing read-only, or publishing the doc.
