Learn what to do if you see an "Error: Out of Memory" message in your Coda doc.
Coda uses your browser's local storage to save your changes before they are sent to our servers. This helps ensure that your changes aren't lost if you lose network connectivity or close your browser. If you've been offline, when your browser reconnects, any local changes are synchronized with our servers.
However, your browser places limitations on how much space Coda (or any other web app) can use, and it's usually smaller than the total free space on your hard drive. Chrome limits the available cache to a percentage of available disk space. When that happens, you'll see a message like this:
Error: Out of Memory
We cannot save your changes because your hard drive is full. To avoid data loss, please free up your storage space.
To continue editing and collaborating, you'll need to free up space on your computer by doing any of the following:
Removing files
Deleting old applications
Once more space is available to Coda, the message will disappear automatically, and your changes will be saved.
If you cannot free space at this time, we recommend copying and saving (outside of Coda) any changes you've made since the error message appeared to avoid losing your work.
Other browser-related errors
There are several other browser-related errors you may encounter when using Coda:
-
DO00040 error: This error can occur for a number of different reasons but often indicates browser-related issues. To resolve, you can try any of the following troubleshooting steps.
- Confirm you are using a supported browser. If not, consider using a different browser.
- Restart your browser.
- Upgrade your browser, or remove and redownload the browser.
- Restart your computer.
- Log out of Coda and then log back in. Note: this will wipe out any uncommitted ops that may have been made while offline that have not been sent to our servers.
- Aw snap: This Chrome error typically indicates browser issues, including memory issues, an outdated browser, etc. If this error message seems to be a one-off, rather than occurring regularly, you may want to try just restarting your browser, clearing your browser’s cookies and cache, and keeping fewer tabs open. If you regularly see this error, even after browser troubleshooting, you may need to look at reducing the size of your doc.
