Generate browser console logs for troubleshooting

Learn how to view, save, and share your browser console logs with Coda support for troubleshooting purposes.


In some unique circumstances, our support team may request that you share the content of your browser's console logs to help us troubleshoot a problem. The steps in this article will explain how to access and share those console logs with the Coda team.

đź“Ł Depending on the nature of the issue, the Coda support team may alternatively ask you to generate a HAR file (e.g., for slow loading) or a performance profile (e.g., taking too long to add a row) for troubleshooting. Retrieve console logs from Chrome

Follow the steps below to retrieve the browser console logs from Chrome:

  1. Open the main Chrome menu using the three dots in the top right of your browser

  2. Hover over the More Tools option, then select Developer Tools

  3. Click into the Console tab

  4. While keeping the console open, reproduce the issue you’re experiencing in Coda

  5. Then right-click on the text logs within the console tab, select Save as, and choose where to save this file

  6. Finally, share this downloaded file with Coda support.

 

Retrieve console logs from Firefox

To generate and share the console logs from a Firefox browser, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Firefox Tools menu by clicking the three lines in the upper right corner of your browser

  2. Select More tools, then select Web Developer Tools

  3. Click into the Console tab of the web developer tools

  4. With the console still open, reproduce the issue you’re having in Coda

  5. Right-click on the logs in the Console tab, select Save all Messages to File, then choose a destination for this file

  6. Finally, share the recently downloaded file with Coda support

 

Retrieve console logs from Safari

If you’re using Safari as your browser, follow the steps below to retrieve and share console logs:

  1. In the menu bar, click on Safari then select Settings

  2. Click into the Advanced tab of the settings, and make sure the Show features for web developers box is checked.

  3. Then close the settings and return to your Safari browser.

  4. Now click on Develop in the menu bar, and select Show JavaScript Console. This should take you to the Console tab.

  5. Reproduce the Coda issue you’ve been experiencing in your browser

  6. Within the Console tab, use the Cmd+a shortcut (Mac) or Ctrl+a shortcut (PC) to highlight the full console log. Then right-click, select Save selected, and choose a destination for this file.

  7. Finally, share this file directly with Coda support.
