Learn how to enable line numbers for the pages of your Coda doc

Updated over 2 months ago

Line numbers - or block numbers - allow you to identify specific sequences of text or other objects on the page of a Coda doc. When line numbers are shown, you can more easily reference exact places on a page, thus keeping your team and collaborators aligned.

While Coda defaults to hiding line numbers, you can quickly change this setting to show the line numbers on specific pages, or on all pages in your doc. Once line numbers are turned on, you will see a number for each distinct block or each new line break on the page.

FAQs

What qualifies as a new line on a page?

In Coda, a new line starts every time there is a line break. For instance, if you press Enter on your keyboard, this will create a new line break (and the next line number). But if you press Shift+Enter, this is not considered a new line break (and therefore will not start a new line number).

Is there a way to turn on line numbers for all docs at once?

At this time, there isn't any way to turn on line numbers for all docs at once. You will have to turn on line numbers for docs one by one.

Can I copy and share links to specific line numbers?

Yes - you can easily copy the link to a specific line number, then share this link with others. When they click the link, they will be brought to that specific line number on the page.

To copy a line number, just hover next to the number on the page, click the three vertical dots that appear, and select Copy link.
