Profile pictures are used several places across Coda. While using Coda, you’ll see your profile photo in the upper right corner of your screen. As you collaborate with teammates in Coda docs, you’ll see a set of profile pictures - everyone who’s currently in the doc - displayed at the top of the doc. And when you use a People column, you will see profile pictures included there as well.

If you find yourself wanting to change your profile picture, this article will teach you how.

Within this article, you’ll find...

Profile picture defaults

Your default profile picture is added to Coda by one of two ways, depending on how you login to Coda.

If you sign into Coda using your Google account, we pull in your profile information from Google including basic information like your name, email address and profile picture. To set up your picture profile in Google, follow the Gmail help article here.

If you use another supported sign in mechanism such as SSO, we will pull your profile picture from Gravatar.

Note that it may take 24 hours for your profile picture to sync with Coda.

What files types are accepted for profile photos?

Your profile photo must be a .jpg, .gif, or .png file.

Where is my profile image used?

We show your profile picture in several different places across Coda docs and workspaces.

For instance, we show your profile picture in the “doc roster.” That's the horizontal list of avatar pictures on the document title bar, which shows all the people currently using the doc. This roster shows up when there are two or more users currently accessing a doc.

Your profile picture will also be shown when you are searched for or selected in a People column. Additionally, your profile pic will be displayed when you leave comments on a doc. We also use the profile photo to support formulas like, User( ) and ModifiedBy( ).

We also show your profile picture in your maker profile in the Doc Gallery.

How can I change the name on my Coda account?

To change your account name, simply click on the pencil icon next to your name. If clicking on this pencil icon doesn’t work, this is likely because your Coda account is linked to a Google account. In this case, you can change your name in one of two ways.

You can change your name directly in your Google account, then sign back into your Coda account to have the update reflected there.

Alternatively, you can stop using Google as your login method, and switch to email/password login. First, add a password to your Coda account (in the Security settings section), then sign out and log back into Coda via email/password, instead of via Google. Once that’s done, go into your Google account settings and remove Coda. You’ll then be able to change your name directly in your Coda account settings.
