How do I update Chrome?

We optimize Coda to work on the most recent version, learn how to get up to date fast

Updated over 7 months ago

To give you the best and most secure experience, Coda requires the most recent version of Google Chrome. If you've updated Chrome, and are still getting a ‘Can we update Chrome?’ message, your installation may be corrupt. Here are a few options for resolving the problem:

  1. Try uninstalling and reinstalling Chrome

  2. Google has some advice on updating Chrome here https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95414.

  3. We also recommend checking out Google's full troubleshooting article here https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/111996

Please note, as of March, 2022:

It looks like Chrome 99 is causing problems for some users across different web apps that use IndexedDB. Basically this involved a corruption of user's Chrome profiles possibly as a result of the Chrome 99 upgrade. If you're techy or need the details the 2 related bugs can be seen here Chromium bug A, bug B, Fix.

The bug with Chromium has now been fixed, but if you're still experiencing this issue then you'll need to refresh things on your end.

Here are our directions for this:

  1. Please go to chrome://settings/clearBrowserData, then have "Cookies and other site data" enabled, then click Clear data?

  2. If that doesn't work, try clicking sign-out at the bottom of that same dialog at chrome://settings/clearBrowserData (This is for Chrome not Coda).

  3. And lastly if all else fails, you'll need to either uninstall and reinstall Chrome or remove / re-add your profile https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/2364824.

If you're still experiencing issues after these troubleshooting tips, please reach out to Coda Support. You can do so by clicking the question mark icon in the lower right corner of any doc, then choosing Contact support.
