Ensure that all of the times in your doc match your local timezone

  • Does changing the timezone change for everyone in the doc?

  • Will the timezone change my automations too?

  • Why doesn't the doc show in the timezone of the user?

With Coda, each doc can have its own timezone that any editor of the doc can set. This unlocks the team to work in the timezone of their choice. Now your automations will run in your doc's timezone and will unify all your formulas in the doc.

Setup

If we support the timezone you are in then we will default to the timezone of the browser when you create a new doc. If we do not yet support your timezone we will default your doc to PST (pacific standard time). You can also choose a timezone to be the default for all new docs you create under your account settings.

To change the timezone for your doc:

  1. Click the gear menu in the upper right corner

  2. Select Time Zone

3. You'll then see a box showing your currently selected time zone, the option to change your time zone via the dropdown menu, and the option to Change my default

If you select the Change my default option you will be taken to your personal account settings to update your personal time zone.

If you choose one of the other times zones form the dropdown menu shown above, you will be presented with the following:

If you select Convert times, you will change all manually entered values to the new timezone. For example, 10:00 EET will become 19:00 PST.

If you select Keep times, manually entered values will remain the same but set in the new timezone. For example, 10:00 EET will become 10:00 PST.

Regardless of how you choose to convert manually entered values, the following will happen:

  • Automations will run in the updated doc time zone

  • Calculated formulas will show values in the updated doc timezone

  • Timestamps for row activity & comments will show in the user's local timezone

Timezone formulas

You'll also have access to two timezone-specific formulas to help you see what the current browser and document timezones are:

  • CurrentTimezone() - Returns the timezone of the user accessing to the doc

  • DocumentTimezone() - returns the timezone of the document which may be different from the CurrentTimezone

  • Now(), Today(), and other time-based formulas will reflect the doc's timezone

Calendars and timeline charts and timezones

You can also customize a calendar view or timeline's timezone. New calendars and timeline charts will default to the timezone of the doc, but you'll have a few options to change it for your scenario:

  • Match the calendar or timeline chart's timezone and the doc's timezone

  • Match the calendar or timeline chart's timezone to the user viewing it using the user's computer's timezone

To update a calendar's timezone:

  1. Hover over the calendar's title and click Display

  2. Scroll to timezone and make your selection

Timezones supported

Coda currently supports a wide range of timezones, including most time zones in North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand as well as select other regions worldwide.  Due to complexities in timezone data, certain timezones are not yet available.  If your specific location is not in the list, you may be able to choose a different location in the same timezone, or an alternative location with the same UTC offset.

FAQs

Does changing the timezone change for everyone in the doc?

Yes. Coda is a collaborative doc environment so many controls like timezone are also collaborative.

Does the timezone reflect DST (Daylight Savings Time)?

Yes. We do adjust automatically for daylight savings time.

Will the timezone change my automations too?

Yes. If you change your timezone then we will keep the value of the time-based trigger and update it to the new timezone. For example, 5:00pm PST will be 5:00pm JSP.

Why doesn't the doc show in the timezone of the user?

This is just our first step in bringing you better timezone controls. We are working towards more timezone features in the future.
